Banana skin

Just after the mushroom I came across this banana skin on Paradise Street. I have no idea why this street is called paradise street as it is nothing like paradise, there is some student halls and a subway to the ring road, and nothing else at all, but this banana skin makes it more like paradise as I stopped to enjoy it.

Big mushroom stalk

Today I came over this very large mushroom stalk today that was just on the pavement. I found quite surreal that there was such a large mushroom stalk on the floor, this doesn't usually happen!

Life drawing week 2

This week we were looking at proportion, it didn't have very successful drawings so I only have one to post :-(

Yellow tomato

My Dad grew this yellow tomato in his green house. I really like the layered segment and the individual curve that they all have.  It also tasted great as well as looking it, I made spicy prawn linguine

Life drawing week 1

On Monday I started a life drawing course. It was great fun, this week we were looking at form and shading using chalks. These are my best two drawings. I think they do look like a lady which I am pleased about but the certainly don't look like Kelly our model. Sorry Kelly! Lets hope I'm better at it next week

A really really old bike

On Saturday I went for a run along the canal. On the way to Hatton under the A46 bridge was this bike frame on the other side, it looks like it has been there for ever the bike frame is so old and it is really rusty. It looks like it should be in the Transport museum how weird.

A perfect snail

I spotted this on my way home today. How perfect is this snail, the leafs behind really help to set it off. I think it made my day.

Hiding the past

Today I noticed these lovely cobbles underneath the tarmac. I think it's beautiful, it reveals the hidden past. If these street could tell stories I think it would have years and years of stories to tell, at the other end of the street is are two Medieval building and the cobbles feel quite Victorian. Today I use at as road to work from my car but loads of people use it to get to the university and the county court, and a lot of people park on street.

Breaking stuff

My thought for yesterday was breaking stuff. I have always wanted to go into a summer market and just drop a bottle of wine on the floor. Maybe I should do it and film it at the same time, I should get my self a hidden camera and be a destructive spy!

My rash

On Monday night Chris (my boyfriend) noticed that I had a lumpy forehead. When I got to work on Tues it was all over my face, Jamie (my manager) sent me to NHS direct. The nurse man said it was from my bike helmet (I did a fun triathlon at the weekend at it was very hot, he thought it was from that) but I don't think it is as it keeps spreading. Yesterday (Weds) it made it to my neck, chest and bike and today (Thurs) it is on my shoulders. I'm going to go to the doctors here and see if they can help as it is getting worse not better. I feel a bit like Centre Pompidou by LucyandBart http://www.lucymcrae.net/ I thought I'd blog about it in case it gets worse and I can turn it into an art project.

An update for you. I went to the doctor yesterday. She said she'd never seen any thing like it before! It's like a shaving rash, but I haven't shaved any of these places! She given me 3 antibiotics to take a day and it does seem to be getting better. It's not red and there seems to be less of it, yayy! Thanks doctor lady

Writing on the wall

On the way to work today, before the subway a lady and her husband left there house (they didn't really seem like they were together but when you've been with someone that long maybe you don't hold hands any more) the husband started picking up the rubbish off the floor and then he pointed out this on tiles of the subways that wasn't there before, he seemed quite upset about this. It seemed really nice that he cared so much. I looked at the rubbish on the way home but I couldn't bring my self to pick it up as it just seems really dirty, I feel a bit bad about this.

Patch work grass

This grass was laid today while I was at work. It looks like patchwork stitched together, it doesn't really look like grass more like a blanket.

The man who lives in the tent....

I chosen to start here as I've mentioned him in my opening post. I work in the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum in Coventry and I park just out side of the city centre on a housing estate near the Tech Park. At the roundabout off London Road there is a big white building sign and behind this is a bank which has lots of big fox gloves bushes and behind these is or was a man that lived in a tent (he could also be a women but I think he is a man). I noticed the man 4 months ago, the only reason I noticed him was because he had left so much rubbish on the bank. He really intreeges me and has done since this first day, who is, does he go to work, does he have a family, where is he and why does he live in a tent? I do respect him for not just living on the streets, he has gone and brought a tent and found quite a good stop to hide but I don't like all the rubbish he creates. From his rubbish I have learnt quite a lot about him, he can't be completely poor as he shops in Sainsburry's (Sainburry's carrier bags) he like crisps a lot, one day he treated him self to some donuts, in the morning he hadn't eaten them all but by the end of the day he had. I did see has back a few times in the morning when he was sat out side but I haven't seen him for agers. When the wind from tornado came over the tent blow done and never got put back up until recently when it has gained more shape in the polls. Is the man in the tent back? I don't think so as it sill doesn't look like you could really get in it from the front but from the back it does like a tent again. Hmm where is the man or where has he gone? Is he the really crazy lady who stud in front of a car this morning? Is it the person that put all the rubbish in a blue bag at the weekend? I just don't know!

The beginnings of my blog

Hi

I'm a conceptual textile artist, this is a blog of my thoughts and ideas that I have through out the day. With my work I am always searching for concepts that I really care about, that are really personal to me so the idea of this blog is to throw all of my ideas together to see what I can come up with. This might be the man that lives in the tent, a feather on the floor or a really overwhelming profound thought (you more likely to get the first two more often!).

I must pre-warn you I am dyslexic so there will be lots of words which should be a different one!
